Food: Slow Food Market in Oerlikon: From the 9th – 11th November there is the Slow Food Market at the Messe in Oerlikon.  A not-to-miss event for all foodies and gourmets! This event focuses on the provenance of high quality food  – what we eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how the food we choose impacts the rest of the world.The antithesis of fast food embodied by its logo of the snail. For more information click here.

Fashion: Mercedes Benz Fashion Days: Mercedes Benz fashion show continues at Schiffbau on Saturday and on Sunday for it’s final night. For more information click here or to  read our previous article click here.

Art: Zurich Kunst 12: KUNST 12 ZÜRICH is a contemporary visual art fair showcasing 80 international galleries. Over the past 17 years this art fair has grown into an important meeting point for collectors, gallery owners, curators, artists and art-lovers. Art: Swiss National Museum Exhibition Exhibition “Capital” – the Merchants in Venice and Amsterdam The exhibition tells the story of the origins of our contemporary economic system, capitalism, in the historic maritime republic of Venice and during the “Golden Age” of Amsterdam – Venice from the 13th century and Amsterdam in the 17th century. Both cities played a key role in the economic and social development of the West. Merchants and traders invented new forms of finance, credit and commerce which we still use today. Festival: International Short Film Festival Winterthur: The16th edition of the International Short Film Festival will take place from 6th to 11th November in Winterthur, just 20 mins from Zurich by train. For more information click here.

The Raeblilichtumzug in Richterswil: This takes place not far from Zurich in the town of Richterswil on Saturday 10th November starting from around 3pm.  There are special boats along the lake to get to get there in time and it all makes for a great spectacle as the whole town is lit up by “turnip lanterns”.For more information click here to read our previous post.

The fair’s visitors are accustomed to international high quality and cutting-edge art as Zurich is an already established hot-spot in the art world. Alongside traditional programmes of modern and contemporary art, there are also booths promoting the latest generation of new galleries. Most recently, the fair introduced the ZKB Art Award to provide a platform for galleries and young aspiring artists.  From 8th – 11th November more than 20’000 visitors are expected to transform the 8000 m² former factory building into a vibrant art centre. Winterthur Short Film Festival, www.newinzurich.comThe Winterthur Short Film Festival: This is a festival of short films from a variety of countries: “Kurzfilmtage” have enjoyed huge popularity for years and this festival is growing in international recognition and in popularity with many of the evening events already sold out. What began in 1997 on a small scale andwas dedicated to local film-making has by now developed into the biggest short film festival in Switzerland. Year after year, more than 10’000 film addicts flock to the Casinotheater and Theater Winterthur. Mercedes Benz Fashion Days: Mercedes Benz Fashion Days Zurich is where national and international designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Julien Macdonald, Missoni, Alexander Wang and many more show their collections and it takes place from 7th – 10th November at Schiffbau in Zurich. 6 Things to do in Zurich this Weekend!

Lots going on this weekend in and around Zurich and it looks like it will be a good one whether it snows or not. A few things to keep you busy:

1. Open Day (Tag der Offenen Tur) at Zurich Kunsthaus – the gallery is open to everyone for free and lots of special activities including music, tours, competitions etc will be laid on to entertain you and please scroll down to our previous post on this topic for more information. 2. Continuing with the “art theme” there is also the exhibition of young Swiss artists in Winterthur jungkunst.ch which looks like a great occasion to view aspiring Swiss artists in a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy, music, shopping and food and drink. Love this picture by Alain Poussot:

3. Jelmoli Style Days continue with a Family Day in the children’s department with special offers, family photo shoots, a special family breakfast in the newly opened Sopra restaurant and 10% discount on many items across the whole store.

4. On Saturday evening there will be an “apocalyptic evening of fun and food” with a reading in English by Justin Cronin, author of “The Twelve” at Orell Fuessli bookstore at 8:00 p.m. Entrance free. 6. And if you’re feeling thirsty why not taste some wine at the Coop Weinmesse at the Schuetzenhaus in Albisguetli.  It’s closed on Sunday but it is open on Saturday 27th from 2pm – 10pm. Keeping on the “art theme”, here is some information about art specifically by young Swiss artists that you can view later this week just outside Zurich. This annual exhibition for young art takes place in “Halle 52” in Winterthur from 25th – 28th October. Now in it’s 7th year, Jungkunst invites you to an exhibition of the most promising artists of the contemporary Swiss art scene. Offering a relaxed atmosphere, with a shop, bar lounge and concerts you can admire young art late till into the night. Halle 52 is 5 mins from Winterthur railway station at Katharina Sulzer Platz, 8400 Winterthur
