12 boats,15 days, 4,000 vineyards – Expovina 2012 Wine Boats at Burkliplatz

Mark your diaries for the 59th annual Expovina Wine tasting event which will be held in Zurich from 1st – 15th November. This unique wine tasting event takes aboard the 12 (stationary!) wine ships which will be lined up at Burkliplatz laden with wine from vineyards all over the world for you to explore and to enjoy.

For just 20 CHF entry you can taste the wines from over 4,000 vineyards from all over the world and there are also restaurants aboard the ships which makes it an ideal place to meet up with friends.

The opening times are as follows:

Monday – Saturday                                          1pm – 10pm (last entrance 9pm)

Sunday                                                             1pm – 7pm (last entrance 6pm)

Thursday 15th November(last day)                  1pm – 9pm (last entrance 9pm)

The restaurants are open from 11.30 till midnight from Monday to Saturday and from 11.30 till 9pm on Sunday. You can enter the ships free of charge between 11.30 and 12.30 to visit the restaurants. For more information please click here.

Circus Monti is on until Sunday 7th October with trapeze artists, clowns and acrobats from all over the world. The circus takes place in a big top located at Kasernenareal in Zurich and for more information and to book tickets click here.

The Gourmesse.ch – fine food and wine from all over Switzerland in Zurich is on at the Kongresshaus todayfrom 11am to 9pm and on Sunday 7th and Monday 8th from 11am – 8pm.  As well as food, wine and champagne tastings, there are also show kitchens with top chefs demonstrating their skills and there are restaurants there too.

The Zurich Bierfest is on at Zurich Hauptbahnof until Saturday 13th October with plenty of beer a fun atmosphere.  It’s advisable to make reservations if you can but there are sometimes seats availble if you’re passing by.  For more information and to make a booking click here.

Grape Picking in Stein am Rhein anyone?

Do you fancy a day out this weekend picking grapes in a working vineyard then afterwards tasting some of the delicious wine from the same vineyard along with local sausages and cheeses? Stein am Rhein is one of those beautiful “chocolate-box’ towns full of character, not too far from Zurich and very close to the border with Germany.

Zurich Weekend – Bierfest, Alpabzug, Zuspa, Zurich Film Festival, Pink Ribbon Charity Walk, Rowing

Why not raise a glass and celebrate Oktoberfest Zurich style?  The Zurich Bierfest is on at Zurich Hauptbahnof until Saturday 13th October and normally proves to be a very popular event with plenty of beer, lots of live music and entertainment and a fun atmosphere.  It’s advisable to make reservations if you can but there are normally some seats availble if you’re passing by.  For more information and to make a booking click here.

The Zurich Film Festival continues and on Saturday evening the Awards Ceremony take place. Sunday is the last day and for information on the programme of events click here.

On Sunday the 5th annual Pink Ribbon Charity walk takes plan  at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich from 12 noon to 5pm. If you haven’t done so already you can register on the day at 12 noon.

Wine Tasting – Think Global, Drink Local

Hope you’re all enjoying the fabulous sunshine in Zurich this weekend. If you’ve overdone the sun and want to escape the heat later on, there is a Wine Tasting Event at Restaurant Loewen in Meilen today from 1pm 6pm.  Ahead of the Expovino Wine Tasting in Burkliplatz  on 1st – 15th November (more to follow closer to the time), why not pop by and try some local specialities from the vineyards along Lake Zurichsee?
