The Event and Wedding Fair takes place at the Messe in Oerlikon on 12th and 13th January from 10am – 6pm each day.  It’s not just aimed at those who are getting married. The Meiyintang Collection of Cinese Ceramics at the Rietberg Museum

After the six-month rebuilding programme, the Museum Rietberg reopens its Chinese collection with the presentation of more than 600 objects from the world-famous Meiyintang Collection of Chinese ceramics in the splendid, freshly refurbished galleries. Among other treasures, the collection includes eggshell-thin cups from the Neolithic period, colour-glazed horses and magnificent vessels from the Tang dynasty, as well as exquisite bowls with transparent glaze from the Song period. Mercedes Benz CSI Golden Moments

This is an equestrian show with a difference and it also features the CSI “expo” or exhibition, with lots of attractions for the whole family. British artist Joanne Finnegan’s First Major Solo Exhibition

Joanne Finnegan has her first major solo exhibition at the American Women’s Club Zurich on February 2nd to March 30th. Joanne’s paintings highlight the beauty of the Swiss Alps through vibrant, strong colours and on February 2nd she has the opening Vernissage from 6:30 to 9pm. www.joannefinnegan.com

Join a discussion about this highly praised novel. From the acclaimed author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans, a moving novel that subtly re-imagines our world and time in a haunting story of friendship and love . Moderation by Jill Prewett (of Nuance Words, columnist and author of “Behind Closed Doors” and “Raw Material”). This free event will take place at Orell Füssli at 8.30pm on 31st January at The Bookshop, Bahnhofstrasse 70, 8001 Zürich. Chagall, Modern Masters at the Kunsthaus

Also showing is “Chagall, Modern Master” which runs from 8th February – 12th May at the Kunsthaus Zürich. it features some 90 paintings by Marc Chagall (1887–1985), one of the best known and most popular artists of the 20th century. His images of Russian village life, floating figures, flying cows and roosters are world-famous.The exhibition focuses on the period 1911 to 1922 – a formative era in Chagall’s artistic career. It covers his sojourn in Paris before the First World War, his trip to Berlin and his exhibition there in 1914 at the Galerie Der Sturm, as well as the period spent in his native Russia. In addition to normal opening hours, the Chagall exhibition is also open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Book Signing with JJ Marsh and Sunday Shopping in Zurich

 

 

 

 

 

 

The British author JJ Marsh (also known as Jill Prewett) was one of the three female entrepreneurs delivering an inspirational talk at the Powerhouse Event in Zurich on Tuesday and on Sunday 2nd December she will be at Orell Fuessli between 4pm and 5.30pm signing copies of her latest novel “Raw Material”, a crime thriller, which is set all over the UK from deserted Pembrokeshire beaches, through to the shadowy underpasses of North London and in to the remote Irish countryside. Jill’s first novel, “Behind Closed Doors”, based in Zurich, was the first novel in this detective series and both books would make ideal Christmas Presents.

Why not pop over to Orell Fuessli this Sunday to meet the author in person and to pick up a signed copy – and how about some Christmas shopping at the same time?  Don’t forget this Sunday is one of the Special Shopping Sundays in Zurich where the shops will be open from 11am – for more information on Sunday Shopping click here.

6 Things to do in Zurich this Weekend!

Lots going on this weekend in and around Zurich and it looks like it will be a good one whether it snows or not. A few things to keep you busy:

1. Open Day (Tag der Offenen Tur) at Zurich Kunsthaus – the gallery is open to everyone for free and lots of special activities including music, tours, competitions etc will be laid on to entertain you and please scroll down to our previous post on this topic for more information. 2. Continuing with the “art theme” there is also the exhibition of young Swiss artists in Winterthur jungkunst.ch which looks like a great occasion to view aspiring Swiss artists in a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy, music, shopping and food and drink. Love this picture by Alain Poussot:

3. Jelmoli Style Days continue with a Family Day in the children’s department with special offers, family photo shoots, a special family breakfast in the newly opened Sopra restaurant and 10% discount on many items across the whole store.

4. On Saturday evening there will be an “apocalyptic evening of fun and food” with a reading in English by Justin Cronin, author of “The Twelve” at Orell Fuessli bookstore at 8:00 p.m. Entrance free.
