There’s plenty on this weekend in and around Zurich. If you’re an art afficianado or perhaps you are even thinking of starting your own collection, the Art International Festival at Kongresshaus, near Burkliplatz is on this weekend and is open from 11am – 8pm both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th. Amongst many of the artists showing is Elena Bardina, see photo below.
If you favour going just outside Zurich why not visit the Jucker Pumpkin Farm in Seegraben to admire their amazing “Olympic Display” and giant pumpkins. Earlier this week in the Swiss Pumpkin Championship competition (see photos) Beni Meier’s gigantic pumpkin set a new European record weighing 768.5 kg on the scales! This pumpkin is competing in the European Championships on Sunday, October 14 in Ludwigsburg in Germany, but the other giant pumpkins will still be on display until 4th November. The Juckerfarm is open both Saturday and Sunday and you can even try out some of the seasonal pumpkin delicacies. Their pumpkin soup is delicious!
The Zurich Bierfest is on at Zurich Hauptbahnof until Saturday 13th October with plenty of beer a fun atmosphere. It’s advisable to make reservations if you can but there are sometimes seats availble if you’re passing by. For more information and to make a booking click here. Zurich Oktoberfest at Bauschaenzli began yesterday and promises to be one big party. Tickets went on sale for this event back in May and sold out weeks ago but if you’re prepared to queue there is seating reserved for passers by, so that you too can experience this unique event. And looking ahead a couple of weeks, on Saturday 3rd November there is The Long Night of the Hotel Bars from 9pm – 3am. Get transported from one hotel bar to another around Zurich and listen to different live music and sample different atmospheres in each location. Hotels participating include the Hotel Storchen, The Claridge Hotel, the Renaissance and the Hotel Ascot. A fun evening!
