It has fabulous lighting capabilities, 360° projection and an enormous event area measuring 480 m2. It also incorporates a night-club and a cigar bar. If you are in town this coming weekend why not give it a visit as they will be having their grand opening party on Saturday 26th January from 11pm – 4am. Tickets CHF 30 . And if you’re booked up this weekend, or off skiing in the mountains, why not try it for a Valentine’s Day treat on February 14th? They have a special evening planned from 6.30pm onwards with dinner, show and drinks with a variety of ticket combinations available.  For more information visit their website.

If you speak German, (or are learning it?) why not go along to another event happening this week in Zurich.  Caritas charity shop in Viadukt, Bogen C in Zurich, which incientally must be the poshest second hand shop in Zurich, is hosting a reading by Joannes Vogel of the aptly titled “Kleider machen Leute” (clothes make the man) by Gottfried Keiler. There will also be musical interludes as you browse through the racks of ‘pre-loved’ clothes, shoes and accessories in this very elegant boutique situated under the arches in the Viadukt. The evening takes place this Thursday 24th January starting at 6.30pm. What a great way to shop whilst supporting a charity at the same time. For more information visit their website.

Hidden Gems….

Where in the world is this?  This photo was taken yesterday, 20th November …. but where was it?  Spain, Egypt, the Caribbean?

Blausee, Switzerland, NewInZurich

In fact this was taken yesterday at Blausee, a beautiful, crystal clear aqua-coloured lake in the Bernese Oberland, not far from Interlaken.  A hidden gem lying in the Kander valley 900 m above sea level, it is has an enchanting fairy-grotto like appeal and is a great location from which to hike and explore this beautiful area. The statue of the girl was created in 1998 and the story is rather sad.

A plaque next to the staue states: “In memory of the legend of the Blausee the artist and sculptor Raphael Fuchs carved a statue of the beautiful young girl who was found dead in this lake many years ago. This was the place where she used to spend many romantic hours with her lover. After his sudden death, which she couldn’t come to terms with, she continued to return to the Blue Lake every night until she eventually died of grief herself. The blueness of the lake was apparently caused by her tears. She took sorrow and pain with her. But now it’s time to forget the past and to welcome a new day. It’s time to stand up!

The lake itself is filled with trout and the hotel at Blausee has a great restaurant featuring fabulous trout specialities and is also mentioned in the Gault Millaut, Guide Michellin and Gout Mieux. As well as great views over this lovely lake is also equipped with a spa. What better place to escape the hurly burly of city life and relax?  And as you can see from the following pictures, the restaurant is also quite a gem!

Glacier Skiing and Ski and Snowboard Testing in Saas Fee

Ski and Snowboard Testing in Saas Fee

Hopefully the ski resorts around Zurich will be full of snow soon.  But if you can’t wait until December when the resorts typically open up, why not try glacier skiing in Saas Fee?

During the months of October and November they run their “Swiss ski tests” where you can test out skis and snowboards for the coming season in the Allalin snow sports area.  In addition to the ski pistes, you can also use the Kingdom Snow Park, equipped with a half-pipe, large and small lines of kickers and various rails.

There are a number of special offers running at the local hotels with hotel accommodation, lift pass and special ski and snowboard testing all included –  for more information click here. The ski or snowboard testing alone costs just CHF 55 for two days, allowing you to test out any new model of your choice from a good selection. A  great idea to try out different models if you’re thinking of changing skis or snowboards too.
